Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush set the standard when it comes to how
parents should react and handle situations like this that arise with your
children.

In 2002, when Florida Governor Jeb Bush's 25 year old daughter Noelle was
busted for DUI and illegal prescription drug possession, Gov. Bush's
statement to the public was short and simple: "my daughter is a grown adult
and she was have to be held responsible for her actions." Notice, he never
referred to her as "a child" or "his child." In fact, not only did the
governor nor anyone in the Bush family show up in court with her or for her,
but he didn't even pick up the phone to arrange an attorney for her.
Initially she was appointed a public defender. Did Gov. Bush love his
daughter? Of course he did. Did he care about her receiving fair treatment
through her legal-judicial matter? Of course he did. He also realized as
an adult she was more than capable of handling her own affairs, and whether
she was ready or prepared to handle than is really irrelevant if you think
about it.

I think the second commenter was right.

Yes, he is a 28 year old adult, but he is still the child of the Sheriff.

There are two definitions for the word child. First commented is focusing
the usage on the primary definition, "a person between birth and full
growth". The second commenter, and probably the Sheriff also, is focusing on
the second definition, "a son or daughter".

At least this is a little more than arguing over the definition of "is".

At least we can give kudos to the Sheriff for now. With the information that
is out in the public, he allowed his son to be arrested. How many other
sheriff's would have allowed their children to be arrested within their own
jurisdiction?

Time will tell if he ends up being treated the same as other offenders or if
he is treated more leniently.
