St. Bernard residents who want to become more involved in the community,
learn more about the community and learn how to make a difference may be
interested in applying for the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce's Leadership
St. Bernard.

Leadership St. Bernard is designed to educate and to engage citizens in
identifying needs, resources, and opportunities for St. Bernard Parish. This
program is designed to prepare emerging community leaders for positions in
local government, business, and community affairs.

The purpose is to provide a forum that motivates and increases the awareness
of potential leaders by giving them an intense course that encompasses a
broad scope of community concerns.

Topics will include regional perspectives and quality of life, education,
industry and the port organizational structure and governance, governmental
affairs, and St. Bernard Parish Government.

The chamber decided to take on this program because it supports the growth
of the parish economy and business community. In order to achieve this, a
comprehensive approach to leadership development is essential to providing
individuals with the information, resources, and experiences necessary to
effectively lead St. Bernard forward. At its core, Leadership St. Bernard
hopes to help cultivate and strengthen both future and current leaders so
that they can best represent St. Bernard as well as the metro New Orleans
region, chamber officials said.

Participation is open to any individual who resides or works in St. Bernard
Parish; however, the number of participants accepted each year is limited.
