Hello again to our subscription people! This is an alert for those who
may be interested that there is a very nice 2001 ring-grain Talbert
Briar sandblast up on ebay now:

It's a beautiful piece for sandblast fans. However, there is one odd
niggle that leaves me perplexed. In the photos of the rim, there
appears to be what looks like a fill on the smooth rim. Since I do not
now, nor have I ever, used putty fills, this disturbs me a little, and
I'm not sure what to make of it - My best guess & hope is that it's just
a trick of the light or just a naturally-occurring briar 'pulp' spot. I
can't imagine anyone actually PUTTING a fill into a pipe, though I
suppose it's possible that some flaw may have been uncovered if at some
point the bowl was 'topped'. Anyway, I'm a little disturbed since it's
a matter of reputation, and I'd advise anyone interested in the pipe to
ask about this first. I've double-checked it against my original
catalog archive photos, but they were old ones and don't show the rim
well enough to make a firm judgment - though my original pic does not
seem to show the flaw from the ebay pics.

In any event, I'm puzzled.
